CURR 220 (MS & SS) Classroom Management and Restorative Justice

This course is an in-depth extension of CURR113 Creating a 21st Learning Community. Candidates explore and reflect upon proactive, supportive practices, procedures, interventions and classroom management strategies that lead to engaged student behavior and a positive and collaborative learning environment. Candidates learn about how to introduce the habits of 21st century collaborative work. Candidates learn about Restorative Justice and Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) concepts, theory, philosophy and process as a classroom community well-being approach to conflict resolution. Candidates acquire knowledge of diverse family structures and learn about factors that affect student learning and behavior such as poverty, race and socioeconomic status. Candidates also learn about culture and child-rearing practices in order to develop respectful and productive relationships with families and communities.This course is available to participants who have met Be A Teacher Pre-Service and Intern Program prerequisites. (PBS).
