SPED 222 (SS) Exceptional Learners II: Special Education Students in the Classroom
This course is designed to provide the intern with ways to adapt curriculum, materials teaching and management strategies to meet the needs of exceptional learners in their classrooms. This course focuses on identifying and understanding the categories of disabilities as outlined in major federal and state special education legislation. Interns are introduced to the special education process, including referral, assessment, identification, the Individual Education Program (IEP), planning and development, special education placement and/or services. Emphasis is on educational planning, selection and use of appropriate materials, and technologies, including assistive technologies, to meet the academic, physical social, emotional, and behavioral needs of identified special education students in general education classrooms, Practicum Supervisors observe course content in practice to ensure that a fluid connection exists between coursework and practice. Specific Standard TPE references are included in course content.
