SPED 221 (MS) Exceptional learners I: Differentiation in the Classroom
This course introduces interns to a wide variety of commonly occurring disabilities their etiologies, and educational implications. It provides credential interns with ways to adapt curriculum, materials, and teaching and management strategies to meet the needs of exceptional learners in their classrooms. This course focuses on basic ways to differentiate content, process, product, and learning environments for students struggling with academics, as well as for high achieving and gifted students. Also addressed are strategies to help students who exhibit social, emotional, and behavioral needs across diverse educational settings. Interns are introduced to the Student Study Team (SST), the Individualized Education Program (IEP), and the 504 Plan.
