CURR 290 (MS) Assessing Student Learning

Assessing Student Learning focuses on refining teachers’ understanding of types of assessment and giving assessment tools, strategies, and activities to identify students’ strengths and needs. The course will address alignment of assessment with standards, learning objectives, and instructional strategies. This course will particularly address developing assessment for the full range of learners. Accommodations and modifications in assessment to meet the needs of all students, including EL and students with disabilities will be provided throughout the course. Interns learn to use multiple measures (formative and summative) to assess student progress and use data to make appropriate instructional decisions. Interns are introduced to the purposes and uses of different types of assessment instruments and how to effectively assess a range of learners as they plan for and modify instruction. Interns will also examine how to identify student’s misconceptions and determine how they affect student learning and progress.
