SPED 264 Effective Communication and Collaborative Partnerships

This course provides essential communication skills for developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships that serve as a basis for effective communication, collaboration, and consulting in a special education setting. Candidates learn about the need for open communication/collaboration and develop a framework for successful collaboration that includes educational partnerships. Candidates establish and work through partnerships to design, implement, and evaluate appropriate, integrated services based on individual student needs. Candidates explore common barriers to successful communication/collaboration and describe the components of successful collaboration including role clarity, interdependence, vision-driven solutions, and a focus on child and families as full partners in systems of care. the practicum supervisor and mentor support the practical application of these skills and integration with community agencies. This course is available to participants who have met Be A Teacher Pre-Service and Intern Program prerequisites. (PBS).
